Message and File Expiration

To ensure the absolute security of your communications and manage storage efficiency, the system implements an expiration mechanism for messages and files.

Message Expiration Logic

  1. Delete After Fetch: Messages are automatically deleted from the server once they have been successfully pulled to your device.
  2. 10-Day Expiration: If a message is not pulled (e.g., your device remains offline), it will automatically expire and be cleared from the server after 10 days.
  3. Security First: This mechanism ensures that your messages do not linger on the server longer than necessary.

Expired Message Display and Sync

To prevent loss of context and misunderstanding:

  • Placeholder in Chat: Expired messages will still appear in your chat history as placeholders.
  • Request from Other Devices: You can choose to ignore these messages or initiate a request to your other devices. If a copy of the expired message exists on another of your active devices, it will be encrypted and synchronized to your current device.

File Expiration

  • 10-Day Limit: All files (images, documents, etc.) expire 10 days after being sent.
  • Cache Management: We recommend properly managing your file cache to avoid unnecessary storage waste or unintended file loss.
Tip

Always ensure at least one of your devices remains active or backed up to avoid losing important messages and files due to expiration.
